July 2017 Wrap Up

In July I read 10 books.  Here is a list of them and some of my thoughts on them.

Six of Crows (Six of Crows book 1) by Leigh Bardugo - 4/5 STARS
I read this book last year but I decided to reread it before I went into Crooked Kingdom.  I liked it just as much this time around as the first time.

Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows book 2) by Leigh Bardugo - 3/5 STARS
I was disappointed in Crooked Kingdom, I felt there were too many things going on that really didn't need to be going on and that made the book drag on for me.

Atlantia by Ally Condie - 3/5 STARS
This was a really quick read.  The storyline was a bit too predictable but I found the world to be interesting.

Holding Up the Universe by Jennifer Niven - 4/5 STARS
I really liked this book.  I love Jennifer Niven's writing style, she makes her characters seem so real.

Burned (Fever series book 7) by Karen Marie Moning - 4/5 STARS
I did enjoy this book a lot even though I kind of missed Dani's narrative.

Proof of Forever by Lexa Hillyer - 4/5 STARS
I thought this book was great.  I really liked the overall plot of it and I also liked the writing of it.  It's a really great friendship based story.

Behind the Scenes!! vol 1 (manga) by Bisco Hatori- 3/5 STARS
I thought this manga was okay but it didn't really leave a lasting impression so I don't know if I'll continue with the series.

I Found You by Lisa Jewell - 1/5 STARS
I don't usually read much thrillers/mysteries but I decided to just pick this book up because it sounded interesting but I didn't really like it at all.  I found it predictable and I thought the characters made stupid decisions and were uninteresting.

Wildfire (Hidden Legacy book 3) by Ilona Andrews - 4/5 STARS
I really liked this book, I think this series has really good world building and great characters.

Giant Days Vol 1 (graphic novel/comic series) by John Allison and Lissa Treiman - 4/5 STARS
I thought this was a really fun comic.  I loved the characters and I thought the artwork and colours used were great. Can't wait to read the next volume.

So I ended up having a great reading month in July.  I read so many books and I hope I can keep up this reading pace in August.  In July I watched a historical korean drama called Hwarang.  I haven't watched a historical kdrama before but I loved watching Hwarang.  I loved the characters and the story and I thought the soundtrack was amazing. I would really recommend watching it.

What did you read or watch in July?

  1. Haha, I'm also a black sheep in terms of Crooked Kingdom. Although it was interesting to see how the plot resolved itself, none of the characters except Kaz or Wylan ever really interested me. It was really hard to get invested in their emotions and stories, especially Inej and Nina's.

Ahhh, I've wanted to read Holding Up the Universe for so long!! The main characters look so wonderful <3

HELL YES BISCO HATORI. Have you ever read or seen Ouran High School Host Club? I just finished it, and I think it's become one of my all-time favorite anime.

I got a lot of reading done this July! I read 13 books and really enjoyed all of them, which was awesome. Some of my favorites were As You Like It by Shakespeare, Legion of the Dead by Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell, and Karneval Vol. 4 by Touya Mikanagi. :)

    1. I felt the same about Crooked Kingdom, most of the characters weren't really interesting to me either.

I hope you enjoy Holding Up the Universe when you read it, it's a great book.

I haven't read or seen Ouran High School Host Club but I have heard a lot of great things about the anime so I might check it out.

Wow, 13 books is a lot! I'm glad you enjoyed them all. I haven't heard of any of those books but I'll definitely look them up to see what they're about. :)
